Indigenous languages describe as an instruments of peace and development.

As today marks this year “world mother language day”, Indigenous languages have been described as an instruments of peace and development in order to keep people connected to the culture and strengthen the pride and self-worth.
The Yoruba Broadcasters Association YBA, Osun state chapter, stated this in a statement to mark this year mother language day with the theme: indigenous languages matter for development, Peace building and reconciliation.
The statement signed by the state secretary, Aare Fawale Isaiah, said the day is mainly focused on promoting awareness of cultural value in order to save indigenous languages from going into extinction.
He urged Yorubas to prevent their indigenous languages from going into extinction, saying speaking indigenous languages in media stations will help in developing and protecting cultural value.
He called on state government across the South-west to adopt the indigenous language as official language in their activities.
